Here we sit just outside departure lonnge (F4) at Schipol waiting for our 2nd flight and killing 4 hours. Bella and Gordon are sleeping on these horribly hard plastic seats. The rest of us look like we have just spent the night on a plane!!
Actually to be truthful I just had a shower in the airport. 15 Euros which is a bit expensive but at least it helped overcome sitting for nearly 7 hours in a pressurized cabin from Toronto.
The flight over from Toronto was uneventful. We took a track farther south than past flights. We took off to the west and did a lazy circle back to the east over Lake Ontario and crossed back over land land over Prince Edward County. We passed south of Montreal, across Maine and New Brunswick and over Newfoundland. On the east side we crossed Dublin and middle England before a straigjht run into Amsterdam.
A grey morning in Amsterdam.
On the flight over I didn't get my aisle seat. It was taken by a high school french teacher from Toronto who was going over to southern France for a month with his 2 kids. On my right side was a young boy going into Grade 1. He and his grandmother were flying to Romania for the summer. He spoke fluent english and Romanian.
There was more entertainment than you could ever watch. I was conternt to tune to the map and watch the fligh path and distance to destination. Overwise I read.
Boy has the standard of amenities declined since I last flew. While the food was tasty it was serviced in plastic disposal containers with plastic knives and forks. The coffee came with powdered creamer and no real cream!
I had a red wine for supper and you would have though KLM would provide a European wine. No it came from Chile and was served in the finest clear plastic cup that you could desire!
So here we sit. 20 more minutes until we can enter the proper departure lounge.
Next up Africa!
